ACT: A Key to College Admissions
The ACT has become one of the most widely taken college entrance exams in the U.S. Colleges and universities consider ACT scores alongside GPA, extracurricular activities, personal statements, recommendation letters, and interviews to make admissions decisions.
Understanding the ACT
  • Structure: The ACT consists of four multiple-choice sections: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. There is also an optional Writing section.
  • Timing: The full exam, including the Writing section, takes 3 hours and 35 minutes. Without the Writing section, it is 2 hours and 55 minutes.
  • Scoring: Each section is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, with the composite score being the average of the four sections. The optional Writing section is scored separately on a scale of 2 to 12.
When to Take the ACT
The ACT is offered six times annually: September, October, December, February, April, and June.
  • Students of all ages are eligible to take the ACT, but most take it during their junior year.
  • Many students retake the test in the fall of their senior year to improve their scores.
Preparation and Success
The ACT tests your readiness for college-level academics, so early preparation is key. With proper planning and practice, you can approach the ACT confidently and achieve your best results.
